Lecture: 'Pevsner and Penguin'

The Buildings of England might have seemed enough of an achievement for one man. But Nikolaus Pevsner edited not one but three monumental series for Penguin Books – products of his profound belief in the importance of making art and architecture accessible to everyone. This lecture looks at The Buildings, the Pelican History of Art and the King Penguins, and at Pevsner as a key figure in the post-war crusade to make ‘high culture’ the property of Everyman.
